What is High Adventure?

High Adventure Scouting is the pinnacle of scouting experiences.  It typically involves days of hiking, sailing or paddling in remote wilderness areas. Older scouts are able to challenge themselves physically and mentally through elite outdoor activities. In the process they learn to overcome obstacles, work as part of a team and live in harmony with the nature around them. About every year to 2 years Norfolk Troop 80 picks a high adventure location to give a group of older scouts a chance to experience this unique opportunity.

There are 4 main High Adventure Bases for scouting:

Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico ( back packing trek covering 50-100 miles in 7-12 days)

Florida Sea Base ( 7-12 day sailing trip in the Florida keys)

Northern Tier Minnesota ( trip on the boundary waters of Northern MN and Ontario)

The Summit West Virginia (Bechtel Summit home of the Scout Jamboree and high adventure activities)
